BOULDER, CO - The times were VERY fast at the inaugural CEO Challenge at Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene, June 24, 2005.

The winner, Frank Karbe of Exelixis in San Francisco, beat the previous CEO Challenge record by one minute (set by Wolfgang Jirout at Austria in 2004), coming in at 9:46, and was 4th overall in his age group! Second place, Gary Holt of Comfort Dental of Colorado, was also under 10 hours, and earned an age group roll-down Hawaii Ironman World Championship slot.

Ted Philip of Decision Matrix Group of Boston was the first CEO over 40, earning the Hawaii slot allocated to that age group. Max Hoes of CFR Line of San Clemente took the next CEO slot since Frank and Gary both picked up age group slots.

Ernie Parr of Parr Insurance will be the fifth CEO from Coeur d’Alene to go to Hawaii, earning his slot by being the fastest finisher over 50.

There is no question that Coeur d’Alene will be the site of many great CEO Ironman Challenge competitions in the future. The course is fast, the town loves the sport and the athletes, and the location of the host Resort makes everything so convenient. The spouses and guests of the CEOs particularly enjoyed the fact that they could see their athlete at least 6 times without having to walk more than 50 yards in any direction.

We are very excited to be bringing five CEOs from Coeur d’Alene to the Ford Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. We know these five are anxious to test themselves against the 10 or more that will be qualifying at Ironman Austria and Ironman USA Lake Placid for the title of ‘Fittest CEO in the World’!
