Triathlon: Stoltz, Whitmore Win In Richmond

RICHMOND, VA – Conrad “the Caveman” Stoltz broke his left hand in a crash half-way through the bike course but still dominated an all-star line-up of triathletes and mountain bikers en route to winning the Nissan Xterra East Championship on a hot sunny day in Richmond.

In the women's race reigning XTERRA World Champ Jamie Whitmore edged last year’s Richmond champion Melanie McQuaid by just 36 seconds.

Craig Evans from Spring Hill, TN and Karen Lefebre from Big Sky, MT won the men’s and women’s amateur championships. Emily Bashton was the only Richmonder to win an age group title, claiming the 25-29 division.

The race consisted of a half-mile swim in the James River, followed by an 18-mile mountain bike course through Richmond’s award-winning James River Park System trails and a 6-mile off-road scramble. Attached are the individual results in text format. A detailed race report is to follow. Visit http://www.xterraplanet.com/race/results_05/richmond_05coverage.html for more information.
