Posted: July 5, 2005 Triathlon: Top International Pros Already Confirmed For The 2005 HSBC Caledon Triathlon Canada’s highest ranked male (Olympian Brent McMahon) and the most successful woman in 2005 (Samantha McGlone) have confirmed their attendance for the elite HSBC male and female race in Caledon July 30th. “We have applications form every province, USA, New Zealand, France, Trinidad and Germany” said race organizer Barrie Shepley. The 2005 HSBC Caledon Triathlon is the 2005 National Junior Championships as well as the only spots in Ontario for the Hawaii Age Group Triathlon in October. New this year will be THE OLD SCHOOL REUNION RACE. “Old School is a special category for anyone who has previously raced on a past age group, elite or junior Triathlon Canada Team” said Martin Rydlo. Martin Rydlo, Stefan Timms and Norm O’’Reilly are organizing the new reunion category. Athletes have time deducted from their finishing time based on their age, sex and the number of years it has been since they last race on the national team. “The goal of OLD SCHOOL is to get friends together who may have not race a triathlon in a number of years and miss their old friends and colleagues” said Shepley. What Martin, Stefan and Norm have done is provide a reason for old friends to get together. There will be prizes for the oldest bathing suits/race equipment and a celebration of the sports past. Add a full course sit down supper after the race is over, a live band for the evening party and you have the makings for a great weekend. The Caledon Triathlon is also the site of the 2006 National Championships so athletes who want to excel in 2006 may simply want to come to Caledon to get an inspection of the course a year early. Triathlon Canada will be using the Caledon race to help select their 23 and under team, their junior national team and their age group team. If you are looking for a world class weekend, or simply want to come and see the top elite athletes in the country race (it will be nationally televised on TSN) check out the details at www.c3online.ca. The event is expected to fill and there are limited number of entrants that are going to be allowed into the event. Source: Barrie Shepley Comment on this story. |
