Triathlon: Kathy Tremblay third in 2005 ITU Pan American New York City Triathlon

The 2005 ITU Pan American New York City Triathlon was held this past weekend in New York.

The women’s elite race was a tight race between the top three finishers. American Julie Swail managed to hold off fellow American Sarah Haskins and Canadian Kathy Tremblay to win in 1:58:52. Haskins placed second in 1:58:59 and Tremblay was third in 1:59:33.

Haskins ran with Swail and Tremblay for much of the run, but Tremblay couldn’t go with them when Haskins made her move. “I stayed with them (the Americans) for the first 3 loops. On the last loop, they accelerated and I couldn’t keep up with their rythym. It was at that moment I realized I missed some mileage in my training. But it doesn’t matter, because I know it is just a matter of time.”

“I’m very satisfied with my form. The Canadian Championships will be held in August and if I’ve told myself if I can podium at one Continental Cup in the USA, I don’t see why I can’t finish within the top 5 at Nationals”.

Tremblay’s next competition will be in Edmonton in 2 weeks time for the ITU World Cup on July 23rd.

The men’s course was also a tight finish, with American Jarrod Shoemaker placing 1st among the men in 1:49:46. Shoemaker managed to hold off American Victor Plata, who finished 2nd in 1:49:53, and 3rd place finisher, Australian Simon Thompson in 1:50:02.
