Posted: August 3, 2005 Multisport: Tri doc Kühner back in action, racing Ostseeman GRÖMITZ, Germany (August 2, 2005) Pro triathlete and physician Lucia Kühner (GER; Profile Design/Orca/Rudy Project/Power Bar/Aktivshop Flemming/Polar), has stayed under the radar so far this season while posting top finishes and growing her general and sports medicine practice. Triathlon’s Ostsee (Baltic Sea) darling will also start this coming weekend at the ultra-distance Ostseeman (3.8 km S/180 km B/42.2 km R) in Glücksburg, Germany. In late June, Kühner won the Olympic-distance Rosenstadt Triathlon by five minutes, besting her 2004 runner-up result. It was also DTU’s regional championship. “The whole race was super-great right from the beginning,” she said. “I felt confident because I’ve been doing a lot of open-water training, and the sea here is cold and can be rough. Sure enough, it felt smooth for the entire 1500 meters. During the six-lap, technical ride, I thought I was in second place and surprised how good I felt even on the small climbs. I stayed down on my Carbon-X aerobars and pedalled a high cadence the entire time,” described Kühner, who has been racing since 1997. “I overtook one girl but wasn’t sure if we were on the same lap until the announcer shouted that I was the leading woman as I came into T2. My running legs felt so nice and powerful for the first time since my injury last season.” The nice and powerful legs took the Grömitz Express to second place overall at the Altenkrempe 10 km running race this past weekend, her final push before trying to better her runner-up finish at last year’s Ostseeman. Kühner (www.DrKuehner.com), who turned pro in 2001, has proudly represented PowerBar (www.powerbar.com) since then, Profile Design (www.profile-design.com), Rudy Project (www.rudyproject.com) and Orca (www.teamorca.com) since 2002, and Polar (www.polar.fi) and Aktivshop Flemming (www.aktivshop-flemming.de) since 2003.
