Originally capped at 750, PR Racing has increased the allotment to 850 participants to accommodate triathletes who have not yet registered and the 100 participants expected to register before the fee increase. Registration for the Olympic distance triathlon is currently set at $90 for individuals and $105 for 2-3 team relays and prices will go up an additional $20 beginning August 22, 2005. Set along the waterways between Miami and Miami Beach, the Escape to Miami will dare triathletes to complete a .9 mile swim from a deserted island onto the newly renovated Margaret Pace Park in Miami’s restored Art District. Athletes will than transition to a 24.8 mile bike ride through Miami’s Arts District, over Biscayne Bay, and on parts of Miami Beach. Participants will complete the escape by running 6.2 miles along Biscayne Bay through the Performing Arts District, Bicentennial Park and onto the MacArthur Causeway. The challenging race will finish back at Margaret Pace Park with a post race party including food, drinks, massages and music for participants, friends and the entire community. Ferry information for registered participants will be posted 2 weeks before the Escape and all participants are encouraged to attend packet pick-up on Saturday, September 17 in order to avoid loading delays for ferries on Sunday morning. Ferries will start running at approximately 6 AM and the last ferry will depart around 7 AM to the island. Part of Escape to Miami weekend includes the first annual Doggie Duathlon, an event that is literally for the dogs. Dogs leashed to their owners will participate in a 100-200 meter swim and a 400 meter run for a fun friendly gathering of man and man’s best friend.
