2005 USA 50 km Trail Championships

The 2005 USA 50 km Trail Championships will be hosted by the Golden Gate Headlands 50 km this Saturday, August 27, in San Francisco, Calif.

The championship, which will be held at the Golden Gate National Recreation area and Mt. Tamalpais California State Park, follows a scenic and brutally hilly 50 km trail run in the coastal headlands of the Golden Gate National Recreation area and the Mt. Tamalpais California State Park. Seven major hills in the race add up to a cumulative climb of over 7,000 feet.

Katie McGregor Wins Guidant 10 km in Minnesota state record time

Team USA Minnesota's Katie McGregor won the Guidant Heart of Summer 10 km women's race in Minneapolis on Saturday in a Minnesota state record time of 32:17. The previous record was 32:52. McGregor, who is the 2005 U.S. 10,000 meter champion with a best of 31:21 in the distance, went to the front of the field as soon as the gun went off and increased her lead throughout the race. McGregor won $10,250 for her efforts, and led her Team USA Minnesota teammates to top 10 finishes. "This was a great effort for Katie," said Team USA Minnesota coach Dennis Barker. "To win a race over a strong field on her home turf is a real highlight for her year. It was another high quality 10K, coming off her performance just two weeks ago at the World Championships and a good finish to her 2005 season."
