Commonwealth Games: Jodie Henry and Cadbury Schweppes Dive into the Fun and Games!

Australian confectionery, food and beverage icon, Cadbury Schweppes, has joined the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Sponsor Family. The announcement was made at the iconic ‘mouth’ of Melbourne’s Luna Park, where the golden girl of the pool, Jodie Henry, joined another icon, Cadbury’s Freddo Frog, to make the announcement.

With just over 200 days to go until Melbourne hosts the biggest sporting and cultural event in its history, Cadbury Schweppes, Jodie and Freddo partnered with Melbourne 2006 Games Mascot, Karak, to bring their own brand of fun and magic to the Games.

Cadbury Schweppes Managing Director Mark Smith said he was “extremely proud” of being a part of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, building on their support for previous Games including a central role at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games.

“With our Australian headquarters right here in Melbourne it is fitting that we are going to be a part of the biggest event this city has ever hosted,” Mr Smith said.

“On behalf of our employees we are excited about the role Cadbury Schweppes will play as an integral contributor to the success of the XVIII Commonwealth Games.

“We are also pleased to announce that World Champion and Olympic Gold Medallist, Jodie Henry, will be the public face of Cadbury Schweppes for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.”

At just 21, Jodie is a triple Olympic gold medallist and is fast becoming one of the brightest international stars in the highly competitive world of swimming.

Mr Smith said Jodie was a great role model for young Australians. “Her passion for winning, her sense of teamwork and her personal motto to always ‘have fun’ fit nicely with our values as an organisation.

“Jodie is on record as a big fan of Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate, and the Natural Confectionery Company jellies – so a Cadbury Schweppes sponsorship seemed a natural progression for both parties.”

Games CEO John Harnden welcomed Cadbury Schweppes to the Games Sponsor Family.

“In their role as an official Games sponsor, Cadbury Schweppes will be the Presenting Sponsor for the Triathlon and Netball,” Mr Harnden said.

“Given the Gold Medal playoff between Australia and New Zealand at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games went to triple overtime, this is certain to be one of the highlights of the Melbourne Games.”

As a sponsor Cadbury Schweppes will deliver Australia’s favourite brands across its extensive portfolio of water, juice, sports drink, soft drinks and confectionery.

The Games will be a unique opportunity to witness 4500 elite athletes from 71 nations taking part in the XVIII Commonwealth Games to be held from 15-26 March 2006.
