Athletics: Subway to Provide Healthy, Fresh Meals to Marine Corps Marathon Volunteers

QUANTICO, Va. - (August 23, 2005) - The Marine Corps Marathon has announced Subway as the title sponsor for the 30th anniversary MCM volunteer program to be held Sunday, October 30, 2005 in Washington, D.C.

"Subway is very excited to participate in the partnership with the MCM," said Barbara Glaub Urban, VP Northeast Region MarketSmart Advertising for Subway. "I am thrilled we can help the marathon promote fitness and healthy eating in the community."

Subway will be providing food support for hundreds of civilian and Marine volunteers who help coordinate the MCM Runners' Expo on October 28-29 at the DC Armory and marathon day activities. Volunteers will be feasting on healthy and fresh sandwiches like savory turkey and veggie.

"I am pleased to welcome Subway as the title sponsor for the MCM Volunteer program this year," said Rick Nealis, MCM Race Director. "Volunteers help make the MCM run smoothly and this is one great way we can show our appreciation for all their hard work."

Volunteers are still needed to help at water stations, the hospitality areas, baggage tent, medical stations and information. Groups are welcome and encouraged. To volunteer for the MCM or for more information, visit: www.marinemarathon.com.

The sold-out Marine Corps Marathon continues a combined tradition of dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism. Since its inception, over 300,000 civilian and military runners from all walks of life have participated, deservingly earning the event its nickname "The People's Marathon."
