Posted: August 29, 2005 Health and Fitness: It’s Your Turn to Become an Iron Girl It’s Not Just a Finish Line. It’s Your Inspiration Iron Girl, a brand focused on getting women moving, has partnered with Shapes Total Fitness for Women to host an event on Saturday, November 5. 2005 marks Iron Girl’s second year as a leading event-based brand that supports women’s active lifestyles. Tampa, the third race in 2005, follows on the heels of several successful events drawing more than 2,000 women. Moved from its original location in Palm Harbor, FL, the event will feature a flat, fast course across the USF campus. All participants will receive a complimentary Iron Girl performance wicking shirt sized just for women and each entrant’s bib will be customized with her name. Additionally, a special Mother/Daughter category will provide those young and old the opportunity to enjoy a day of activity together. Baby Joggers are also welcome to encourage new moms to participate. “We are excited to be title sponsor of this year’s Tampa event,” said Mary Hrvatin-Nash, the marketing and advertising corporate director for Shapes Total Fitness for Women. “Shapes is every woman’s gym, while Iron Girl is every woman’s event. The two make a dynamic team, a team we are very proud of.” In order to strengthen awareness of the prevalence and severity of skin cancer, Iron Girl has teamed up with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. In addition to its goal of finding a cure for skin cancer, Moffitt boasts the Southeast’s largest Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. The 5K and 10K event will serve as a fundraiser for the center with Iron Girl and Moffitt working together to educate women about skin cancer prevention. Shapes Total Fitness for Women, Iron Girl’s local and title sponsor, is a women-specific fitness center with more than 20 years of experience in providing health and fitness programs for women. With more than 11 clubs across Florida, Shapes offers women of all fitness levels the opportunity to become healthier individuals. National sponsors include BOB Strollers, a line of sport utility strollers with unique features that appeal to moms and dads, GU energy gel, a sport nutrition product for the weekend warrior or the professional athlete, TalkingRain, a leading bottled-water company that offers a variety of refreshing bottled-drinks and Wear-Dated Carpet Fiber, the most durable and long-lasting carpet fiber and upholstery fabric. In addition to the distinct race features provided at each event, Iron Girl offers several unique brand components to include an interactive Web site, www.IronGirl.com, and Team Iron Girl. The Web site offers resources such as training tips, message boards and nutrition information to help women achieve their goals of being fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Team Iron Girl serves as an Online community that gives women the opportunity to communicate with and support one another through success stories, recipe swapping and monthly newsletters. Another special component of Iron Girl is the new apparel line designed for women by women, which launched early this month. The line includes general fitness and active wear that is functional yet feminine and stylish. Each piece in the line is named after a woman who leads a healthy, active lifestyle. True to its claim that Iron Girl is for all women, the apparel line will feature sizes ranging from small to 3XL. The Vice President of Iron Girl, Judy Molnar says, “We offer opportunities for women to become healthier and more active by encouraging participation in events. Iron Girl emphasizes the camaraderie and fun of participating in events regardless of what place you finish.” To join the family of women who have already experienced what Iron Girl has to offer, visit IronGirl.com.
