Posted: August 31, 2005 Athletics: P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & Marathon Partners with Multisports Camp in January Elite Triathletes On Hand to Offer Training Expertise San Diego, Calif. (Aug. 31, 2005) -- Runners and triathletes of all levels are invited to learn from some of the best in the field at the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Multisports Experience, presented by Triathlete Magazine that will be held in conjunction with the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & Marathon. Set for Jan. 12-14, 2006, the camp will culminate with participation in the third annual rock 'n' roll road race scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 15. The Multisports Camp is a pre-race program geared to all levels of triathletes and runners, whether they are preparing for a spring event or just want to learn more about cross training and triathlons. Ironman Triathlon World Champions Paula Newby-Fraser, Peter Reid, Heather Fuhr, Michellie Jones, and expert coaches Paul Huddle and Roch Frey, will be in Arizona to share their knowledge and expertise. The camp is designed as a pre-race taper camp. There will be light workouts and lectures featuring topics including heart rate training, planning a training schedule, pre and race day nutrition, and mental preparation. Paula Newby-Fraser, an 8-time Ironman Champion that has been recognized as the "greatest all-around female athlete in the world," has agreed to pace the 3:40 time in the marathon, a popular woman's Boston-qualifying time. Anyone registered for the marathon, assuming they can keep the pace, will have an opportunity to run with Paula. Other top triathletes, to be named at a later date, will be leading pace groups in the marathon and half marathon. On Sun., Jan. 15, participants in the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon will be treated to 60 live bands playing at every mile, 40 high school cheerleading squads providing extra motivation along the route, and a finish line festival at ASU.
