Posted: August 31, 2005 Athletics: 2007 U.S. Cross Country Meet Headed For Boulder From David Monti © 2005 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com USA Track & Field announced today that the 2007 U.S. Cross Country Championships would be hosted by Boulder, Colo. The high altitude university town was chosen over bids from San Diego, Calif., and Vancouver, Wash. According to USATF Cross Country Chair Mike Scott, all the bids were strong. "We had three very thorough and exceptional bids to consider," said Scott in a press release. The driving force behind the Boulder bid was veteran distance runner, Pete Julian. "This is wonderful news for the city of Boulder and the state of Colorado," said Julian in a prepared statement. "To have the USA Cross Country Championships in the running mecca of the world is going to be absolutely amazing. The support here for an event like this is through the roof." The 2006 U.S. Cross Country Championships will be held in New York City next February before moving to the Flatirons Golf Course just outside of Boulder one year later. The Boulder organizers have pulled together a $40,000 prize purse for the event, which USATF called "unprecedented." Comment on this story. |
