The Road Runners Club of America put out the following announcement today. It's a great way to help runners who were affected by hurricane Katrina.

Statement from the RRCA

The Road Runners Club of America offers our deepest sympathies to everyone in theGulf Coast region affected by Hurricane Katrina. In all sincerity, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone during this most difficult time. To all of our members affected, in what ever way we can help, please let us know. The running community in this country is here to support the running community in the Gulf Coast region.

The New Orleans Track Club and the city of New Orleans, LA were the generous hosts for the 48th Annual RRCA Convention. In order to give back to the New Orleans running community, the RRCA has set up a special fund to help the member clubs in New Orleans and surrounding areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. If you would like to contribute to the Fund, please send your tax deductible donation made payable to the RRCA and include in the memo section, New Orleans Fund. 100% of the contributions collected will go to the Fund, and the RRCA will work with local running community leaders in New Orleans to ensure that 100% of the funds are applied to direct recover efforts.

As our country works together to help the survivors of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast Region, the running community can work together to help raise funds for our club members in the New Orleans area.

The Road Runners Club of America and SignMeUpSports are working together to collect money for the RRCA New Orleans Fund. If you would like to make a contribution to the Fund using a credit card, please complete the form at www.signmeup.com. All proceeds collected will go to the RRCA New Orleans Fund.

If you would like to make a contribution by check, please make payable to and mail to:
Road Runners Club of America
C/O New Orleans Fund
8965 Guilford Rd, Ste 150
Columbia, MD 21046

I want to thank the many clubs that have responded to the call and are planning to donate the proceeds of upcoming races to either the RRCA New Orleans Fund or other charities handling disaster relief for Hurricane Katrina survivors.

Please consider hosting a road race, training run, or fun run/walk to collect money for the RRCA New Orleans Fund. 100% of the proceeds contributed to the Fund will be disbursed to clubs in the New Orleans area when they are capable of receiving the funds. The RRCA will work closely with leaders in the New Orleans running community to ensure the funds are applied to direct recovery efforts.
