Triathlon: Brudvig, Wong win Collegiate Championship titles at 2005 Ford Ironman Wisconsin
MADISON, Wisc.—Lars Brudvig (Ames, Iowa) and Jocelyn Wong (Smyrna, Ga.)
claimed the men’s and women’s Collegiate Championship titles respectively at
the 2005 Ford Ironman Wisconsin held on Sept. 11 in Madison, Wisc.
Brudvig finished with an overall time of 10 hours, 30 minutes and 54 seconds
behind a stellar swim time of 53:51, and Wong finished with an overall time
of 12:08:18.
Blake Becker (Stevens Point, Wisc.) finished second (10:37:51) in the men’s
collegiate field, and Joe Kurian (Madison, Wisc.) finished with an overall
time of 10:42:15 to claim third place.
Brian Gierl (Pittsburgh, Penn.) finished fourth (10:43:43), and Andris Roze
(East Lansing, Mich.) rounded out the top five in 11:00:23.
Kristin Drost (Bozeman, Mont.) finished second in the collegiate women’s
field (12:19:09), Dawn Polk (Dearborn, Mich.) finished third in 12:29:16,
Ashley McWilliams finished fourth (12:29:16) and Michelle Flenniken finished
fifth with an overall time of 13:29:25.
2,076 triathletes from around the world competed at the 2005 Ford Ironman
Wisconsin. Athletes competed for 80 qualifying spots to the Ford Ironman
World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, as well as a $30,000 pro-prize
purse.
