Posted: September 20, 2005 Athletics: Kastor named USATF Athlete of the Week INDIANAPOLIS - Olympic marathon bronze medalist Deena Kastor has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after she set an American half-marathon record Sunday at the 2005 Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run in Pennsylvania. Kastor's time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, 53 seconds shattered Joan Benoit Samuelson's 21-year-old mark of 1:08:34, set in at the same race in 1984 in Philadelphia. Now in its fifth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website.
