Posted: September 21, 2005 Triathlon: Ironman North America raises over $35,000 for Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort BOULDER, Colo.—Ironman North America, organizers of eight Ironman events in North America and Canada, raised $35,600 for the American Red Cross to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. Ironman North America announced on Sept. 14 that it was opening 10 slots at $1,500 a piece for the 2005 Ford Ironman Florida Triathlon being held on Nov. 5 in Panama City Beach, Fla., with 100 percent of the funds going directly to the American Red Cross. Ironman North America received 17 requests overnight, and the Ironman Community Fund has allowed each of the applicants to enter the Panama City Beach event. The Ironman Community Fund also matched the first $10,000 raised. Ironman North America would like to personally thank each of the 17 athletes who participated in the relief effort.
