Athletics: Motram And Douma-Hussar First On Fifth

NEW YORK (24-Sep) -- Australian Craig Mottram and Canadian Carmen Douma-Hussar prevailed in today's 25th edition of the Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile.

Mottram passed Alan Webb or Reston, Va., in the last 100 meters to get the victory in 3:49.9. Webb finished second in 3:51.4, and Elkanah Angwenyi of Kenya was third.

After a very quick early pace by Kim Smith of New Zealand, Carmen Douma-Hussar eased away from the field in the last quarter to win in 4:28.0. Amy Rudolph was second and Treniere Clement was third.

Both Mottram and Douma-Hussar earned $5000 for their victories.
