Triathlon: Dave Scott Launches Velocity Coaching, a service that puts the coach back into online coaching

Full program to be introduced at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii from October 11 to 14, 2005

September 26, 2005, Boulder CO—Dave Scott, six-time Ironman World Champion and the world’s most recognized triathlete and coach gets set to launch Velocity CoachingTM—personal, customized online coaching, at the Ironman World Championships in Kona Hawaii on October 11, 2005.

Velocity Coaching is built around the core belief that athletes want personal, customized training programs designed to meet their specific fitness and race preparation needs. “The time has come to bring the coach back into online coaching”, says Dave Scott, of Dave Scott Inc. “I speak with athletes every where I travel. What I am hearing is that many online coaching services relying too heavily on software or algorithms to build training programs for their customers. Athletes don’t want a software solution, they want a coach. A person.”

Dave Scott in partnership with Steve Fluet, co-founder and head coach at Velocity Coaching, carefully designed the program to offer different levels of service. “A key benefit to our multi-level service offering is the athletes’ ability to choose the degree to which they have the coach involved,” says Fluet, a BSc Phys-Ed/Sports Med and USAT Level 2 Triathlon Coach. He continues, “some prefer to receive a comprehensive training program and then to be left to train, while others require more interaction with their coach. We wanted to be flexible on this.”

With this core value in mind, Dave and Steve will work closely with each other and their clients to ensure the best possible service and athlete success. “This is a long term investment for us” Says Fluet, “most of my current clients have been with me for five or more years”. Steve’s clients will continue to receive the same great level of service they have grown accustom to, but will additionally benefit from Dave’s involvement in the creation of their programs.

The Velocity Coaching programs are broken into three distinct service levels with each one including comprehensive, detailed and most importantly, personalized training programs. Level one includes additional services such as coach guidance, online training log, and support materials. Level two athletes get all of the above, plus training aids, post race debriefing with Dave, race nutrition analysis, and a discount on Dave Scott products and promotional pricing on sponsor’s merchandise. Level three offers athletes the unique opportunity to train one-on-one, with detailed program prescriptions and ongoing hands-on coaching by Dave Scott.

Each athlete is prepared a personalized training program based on their current fitness, triathlon history and their race season goals. These programs are prepared by both Dave and Steve. No computer-generated, algorithm-based, cookie cutter programs here.

Velocity Coaching also offers several “on-demand services” such as a detailed nutritional analysis, a supplementation profile, a corrective stretch and strength program, video analysis and quarterly live Q&A sessions with Dave Scott and Steve Fluet.
