Adventure Racing: Exciting course for TrustPower Adventure Quest

Competitors in this year's TrustPower Adventure Quest this Saturday, 1 October, are sure to discover areas of Arrowtown they have not yet explored, believes race director Geoff Hunt.

Entries from around the lower South Island have started to flow in for the event, with more people entering daily. Nearly 60 teams entered last year's event and race organisers are expecting an even bigger field this year. Entries are still open.

TrustPower Adventure Quest competitors will travel around the golden hills of Arrowtown, collecting as many clues within the six hour allotted time. The race is a large scale treasure hunt venturing through Arrowtown's stunning environment.

The bike section taking between one and three hours, includes Arrow Reserve, Tobins Track, Arrow River Gorge and for the adventure category, the course will also include Glencoe Station. On foot the course will encompass Bush Creek, Big Hill Area and Sawpit Gully.

Southern Traverse race director Geoff Hunt would like to encourage entries from competitors of all abilities.

"There are two entry levels to ensure the race is fun and achievable whatever level of fitness and experience teams are at. The adventure category for the accomplished multisport athletes who wish to charge around the course and the social category allows competitors the opportunity to take part and race for as long or short a time frame they so choose."

Armed with a map and a set of clues teams of two are tasked with solving the clues and locating hidden tags. Each tag bears a word that needs to be recorded. Maps and adventure clues identifying where the tags are hidden will be distributed at registration for teams to pre-plan their chosen route.

The race will get underway at 10am Saturday 1 October. Registration and race start will be at the race headquarters' marquee on Buckingham Green, in the heart of Arrowtown.

Prize giving will be held following the race finish at New Orleans Hotel. There are prizes for place getters and heaps of great spot prizes.

Entry is open right up until race briefing on the day of the event. Categories include: open, female and mixed. Entry forms are available from sports shops, local sponsors or by contacting Southern Traverse.

The TrustPower Adventure Quest is supported by TrustPower, Placemakers, SKYCITY Queenstown Casino, New Orleans Hotel, Wallace & Gibbs and MoreFM.
