Athletics: Arkansas Set for OSU Cowboy Jamboree

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The second-ranked Arkansas cross country team will face another quality field of competitors this weekend when the Hogs travel to Stillwater, Okla., for the 69th annual Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree. After 12 Razorback runners competed in New York last weekend, UA will only send six athletes for the 8K race at 9:40 a.m., on the OSU Cross Country Course.

“This is always a good meet for us,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “I love this course, because it’s a lot like the one in New York. We’re not going to run on any course that’s tougher, so it’s a good preparation for us to run our 10K race in two weeks.”

Seniors Said Ahmed will compete for the first time during the 2005 campaign and is looking to have a strong debut after rehabbing from a hamstring injury he suffered at the end of the outdoor track season. Sophomore Shawn Forrest and senior All-American Josphat Boit are both coming off solid performances from the Meet of Champions in New York, where they finished second and third, respectively. The duo will be counted on to lead Arkansas to a team victory in Stillwater.

Sophomore Tyler Hill and freshman Kenny Cormier also ran at the Meet of Champions and are hoping to improve their times on Saturday. Junior Brian Roe is making is third appearance of the year and continues to get better every time he competes.

When the Razorbacks return from Oklahoma they will enjoy a week off in order to prepare for their own Chile Pepper Invitational. The 10K race will be held on Oct. 15 at 9:30 a.m. on the Razorback Cross Country Course at Agri Park.
