Athletics: Mizuki Noguchi’s 25 k world record time at the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON corrected by one second

Last Sunday’s 25 k world record by Mizuki Noguchi, which she set during the 32nd real,- BERLIN-MARATHON, was corrected by one second. The referees of the Berlin Athletics Federation (BLV) told Mark Milde, that the split time of the Japanese runner was 1:22:13 hours at 25 k. That is one second slower than the initially released time of 1:22:12. The faster time was timed by a chip time measurement. But this method is not approved for records. For official world record ratification it is necessary to have referees at these certain k marks. The real,- BERLIN-MARATHON had referees at 25 k, 30 k and at the finish.

The 27 year old had also run a world record at 30 k. The referees certified the initial 30 k split time of 1:38:48 hours. With her finishing time Mizuki Noguchi broke the course record as well as the Asian- and the Japanese record.

The former best times were set by the Japanese Naoko Takahashi at the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON as well. In 2001 she had clocked 1:22:31 at 25 k and 1:39:02 at 30 k. Mizuki Noguchi improved the record at 25 k by 18 seconds and the 30 k record by 14 seconds.
