Posted: October 5, 2005 Triathlon: Fisher raises funds through the Janus Charity Challenge in Hawaii BOULDER, Colo.—Andrea Fisher (Austin, Texas) will raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation through the Janus Charity Challenge at the 2005 Ford Ironman World Championship being held on Oct. 15 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Fisher is racing in remembrance of her father, Terry Fisher, who passed away in 2002 after doctors diagnosed him with stage IV stomach cancer. Terry was an incredible supporter of Andrea’s professional triathlon career, and as her biggest supporter he was a regular volunteer at her races. Terry taught Andrea about life and healthy competition, and in turn she shared with him a love for a sport that gave him motivation to live his life to the fullest. Andrea has posted nine top-five finishes at Ironman events in her career. She finished a career-best second at Ford Ironman Florida in 2000, and her overall time of nine hours, 38 minutes and 24 seconds at the Panama City Beach event was also her fastest Ironman. Andrea is the most notable professional triathlete, to date, to participate in the Janus Charity Challenge in the five years of the program. “We are honored to have someone of Andrea’s caliber participate in the Janus Charity Challenge,” said Casey Cortese, director of community relations at Janus. “It is a true testimony to the incredible power of dedicating an Ironman race to causes that make a critical difference in the lives of others.” As presenting sponsor of Ironman North America events in the United States, Janus, the Denver-based investment management firm, created the Janus Charity Challenge to encourage athletes to use Ironman events as a way to raise money for their favorite nonprofit organizations. To support the athletes’ efforts, Janus provides a robust web-based fundraising system as well as many other fundraising tools. In addition, Janus provides nearly $50,000 to the nonprofit beneficiaries of the top fundraisers at each race. Since its inception in 2001, the Janus Charity Challenge has raised more than $10 million.
