Commonwealth Games: Ansell appointed as Official Provider for Melbourne 2006

Ansell was today announced as an Official Provider for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Appointed to provide 60,000 condoms and 60,000 units of personal lubricant specifically for the Athlete’s Village, Ansell will also supply surgical and examination gloves for use in the Melbourne 2006 Medical Polyclinic.

Burton Van Rooyen, Vice President Marketing Asia Pacific, Ansell, said he was delighted to be associated with the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

“2005 marks the centenary year for Ansell, and as we begin our next 100 years we’re thrilled to be onboard with the biggest sporting and cultural event Melbourne has ever hosted”, Mr Van Rooyen said.

“The Games being in Melbourne is also an added bonus for us - Ansell began as a small business in Richmond before growing to the large global company it is today.”

Mr Van Rooyen said Ansell enjoyed a history of successful association with high profile sporting events such as the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.

“We initially supplied 50,000 condoms for the Athlete’s Village in Sydney in 2000, however 30,000 additional condoms were requested during Games time”, Mr Van Rooyen said.

“Similarly, for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Ansell is happy to assist with additional condom and medical glove supplies if required.”

Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Mr John Harnden, congratulated Ansell on their involvement with the Games.

The Games will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness 4500 elite athletes from 71 nations taking part in the XVIII Commonwealth Games to be held from 15-26 March 2006.
