Athletics: He's Just "Haile"

When Haile Gebrselassie lines up this Sunday at the ING Amsterdam Marathon his bib will different from the other elite runners: his won't have a number. The Ethiopian, who will be trying to break Paqul Tergat's marathon world record, will be wearing a special bib with just his first name.

"This is part of a campaign where also some fun runners are part of," said Michel Boeting of Global Sports Communications, the Dutch management firm which represents Gebrselassie. "Everybody who runs a marathon has his own mission and is a hero in him (or her) self."

Gebrselassie will not be facing any competition in the race, per se, but with the aid of pacemakers, he will be running against the clock. His target pace will be about 2:57 per kilometer (4:46 per mile).
