Triathlon: VeloPress Publishes Run Training Book for Triathletes

Boulder, CO, October 12, 2005 – Elite multisport coach Ken Mierke has written The Triathlete's Guide to Run Training. By maximizing both conditioning and technique, multisport athletes can become faster, stronger, and more efficient runners.

Many triathletes base their training on traditions developed in the individual sports of swimming, cycling, and running. These traditional methods are rarely grounded in sports science and do not address the physical and technical demands of combining two or three disciplines in one competitive event. The Triathletes Guide to Run Training is based on Mierke's research studying elite runners and reveals techniques that triathletes and duathletes of any level can apply during the last leg of an endurance competition.

Mierke, an expert in optimal running technique, specializes in training serious multisport athletes who are approaching their maximum strength levels. For these athletes, improving run technique leads to enormous gains in efficiency and contributes more to overall performance than any other training.

The Triathlete's Guide to Run Training is written for the multisport athlete looking to become a faster, more efficient, and stronger runner. Athletes in triathlon, duathlon, XTERRA, and adventure racing can improve their run times with the techniques and training plans in The Triathlete's Guide to Run Training.

Ken Mierke is president of Fitness Concepts, a multisport coaching company, an Associate Coach for Joe Friel's Ultrafit, and developer of Evolution Running, a system of teaching techniques for efficient, injury free running. Just this month, he coached Margaret Shapiro to championship victory in the ITU JAL Age Group Triathlon World Championship for the 25-29 age group. Mierke has a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Sports Psychology. He also races in multisport events, winning two I.T.U. World Triathlon Championships and two silver medals in the physically challenged division. He is a regular contributor to Inside Triathlon, VeloNews, Metro Sports Washington DC and Rocky Mountain Sports.
