* “Grete the Great” (Grete Waitz) leads the charge in the Norwegian Festival Grete’s Great Gallop and Norway Run, celbrating 100 years of Norwegian independence.
* Thousands tour the surprisingly hilly course in the Emerald Nuts Staten Island Half-Marathon, the final stop in New York Road Runners Half Marathon Grand Prix series.
