Posted: November 4, 2005 Athletics: Gebrselassie The Best In The Chinese Ruled Month Of October Monte Carlo - All but one best performance belongs to a Chinese athlete in the month of October. The Nanjing National Games was the highest calibre meet over the past four weeks therefore it is not surprising that the track and field best performances originate from China, while in the Road Running department the Beijing and Amsterdam Marathons supplied the top performers. Ethiopia’s Haile Gebrselassie is the only non-Chinese athlete to make the list this month however, it is Gebrselassie who turned in the best performance out of all, by winning the Amsterdam Marathon in 2:06:20 (1376 points) – the fastest time of the year. Chinese women ruled all categories for the top performers of the month award. Qiuyan Huang was the best woman in the field events by winning the Triple Jump at the Nanjing National Games with 14.54m (1179 points), while Huina Xing topped all female track athletes by finishing first in the 10,000m at the same meet with 31:00.73 (1238 points) on the clock. The best women’s race walking performance also came from Nanjing, as Yanmei Bai won in a new personal best of 1:27:37 (1227 points) – which is also the top junior performance of the month, as Bai is barely 18 years old. On the men’s side, reigning Olympic champion Xiang Liu posted the best men’s performance on the track, by winning in Nanjing with 13.10 (1256 points). Comment on this story. |
