Posted: November 5, 2005 Athletics: USATF News & Notes, Volume 6, Number 84 World-class M45 runner Castillo dies in accident Masters middle-distance star Roberto Castillo of Miami, Fla., died Sunday, October 23, the Florida Sun-Sentinel reported. He was 48. He was struck by a motorist while waiting for a group of people in the Redlands. Castillo was a fixture on the South Florida racing scene for 20 years. He placed in the top five three times at the World Masters Track & Field Championships. In 2002, he grabbed the M45 800m (2:00.92) championship at the 2002 masters nationals in Orono, Maine, a time that ranked best in the world for his age group. Castillo also won the M40 800m (2:00.67) and 1,500m (4:07.02) titles at the 1998 Maine masters nationals. Comment on this story. |
