Posted: November 12, 2005 Athletics: Sunday, September 24, 2006 New Date Announced For 10th Anniversary Chicago Half Marathon Goal Is 12,000+ Runners On Scenic 13.1 Mile Course Along South Lake Shore Drive CHICAGO – (Nov.9, 2005) -- Sunday, September 24th is the new date for the 10th Anniversary running of the Chicago Half Marathon. Next year, more than 12,000 runners are expected to step off at the Museum of Science and Industry’s start/finish line. The 13.1 mile course winds through Jackson Park, the historic University of Chicago campus in the Hyde Park community and continues along south Lake Shore Drive with spectacular views of Lake Michigan. In 2005, more than 9,000 runners signed to participate – a 33% increase from the previous year. The Chicago Half Marathon is among the Top 10 half marathons in the United States, and the longest running half marathon in Chicago. It is one of the most anticipated long distance races in the Chicago running community. Again in 2006, the preferred charity for the Chicago Half Marathon will be the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program which has raised millions of dollars for research and patient care. Chris Devine, co-founder of Devine Racing, announced, “To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this wonderful Chicago institution, we are definitely going to pull out all the stops and provide runners with the ultimate experience – from our Runners Bill of Rights to our Concierge Service for Runners, great music and food at our Finish Line Festival.” The Chicago Half Marathon is a USA Track & Field sanctioned event with a certified course and serves as the USATF State Championship for the half marathon distance. The spectator-friendly course is considered to be the ‘perfect distance’ for anyone who runs 5Ks, 10Ks or is in training for the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, which will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2006. Weekend highlights include a 2 Day Health & Fitness EXPO on Friday and Saturday (September 22-23). There will be medals for all finishers, shuttle bus service to the race and live entertainment along the race route as well as a huge post race party at the Finish Line Festival on the grounds of the Museum of Science & Industry.
