Posted: November 24, 2005 Triathlon Canada announces changes to high performance program Following an in depth, independent review of its current high performance program by Debbie Muir, Triathlon Canada announced this week the creation of a senior staff position – Director of High Performance (DHP). Upon completion of an international search, the new DHP will be resident in Victoria, BC and be responsible for Triathlon Canada’s entire high performance program, including the successful National Triathlon Centre (NTC). On an interim basis, Larry McMahon has been named the Acting Managing Director of the NTC following the recent news that Paul Regensburg (Director, NTC) and Lance Watson (Head Coach, NTC) will be leaving the organization to pursue new opportunities in the private sector. Both McMahon and the yet to be hired DHP will report to Alan Trivett, the Executive Director of Triathlon Canada under a revised management structure agreed to by Triathlon Canada and its NTC partner, PacificSport. “In support of Debbie Muir’s recommendations, we will be consolidating our National Team Program with the PacificSport National Triathlon Centre. We have created the position of High Performance Director and will work to fill this position with a proven high performance leader,” said Trivett. “We have experienced unprecedented success and owe a debt of gratitude to Paul Regensburg and Lance Watson who served as our first National Triathlon Centre Director and Head Coach respectively. As our sport evolves, so must our organization. Through this consolidation, we will develop an integrated high performance program capable of continuing to produce podium performances in 2006 and beyond." Roger Skillings, CEO of PacificSport supports the proposed changes, “PacificSport has a strong partnership in Powering Sport Performance with Triathlon Canada. In 1999 we were keen to help Triathlon Canada establish the PacificSport National Triathlon Centre in Victoria, a move that contributed to the unprecedented success of triathlon in the following years. We are currently in negotiation with Triathlon Canada, and all our partner national sport organizations, regarding our partnership agreements. In the meantime we will support Triathlon Canada through its organizational change and will do so through open communication and support of personnel changes. Most importantly we will continue to work with the athletes and coaches during the transition to ensure that their training and competition preparation is affected as little as possible and we look forward to our continued partnership.” Triathlon Canada is the National Federation for the sport of Triathlon and Duathlon in Canada. PacificSport is world class athlete services, coaching excellence and sport development. Comment on this story. |
