If you are looking for a cozy, small town road race to start off the Christmas Season, Red's Christmas Run for the Children in New Milford, Conn., will not only allow you to get your competitive juices flowing, but will also bring holiday joy to a deserving child.

This 5-K race on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 10:00 a.m. collects unwrapped toys instead of cash as entry fees, and the toys are donated to the New Milford United Way and New Milford Social Services.

"The purpose of this race is to help bring joy and happiness to children and families who will not be able to afford to give out presents this holiday season," said race director, Wallie Jahn, in a prepared statement.

A cash entry fee of $18.00 through Nov. 30 or $20.00 through race day is also acceptable. An entry form can be downloaded at Wallie's website at the link below:

RoadnTrackSports.com.

On-line registration is also available through Active.com.

Interestngly, the race will be timed using DAG computer chip, a new system which uses a disposable chip (there is no chip rental or collection at the race finish). More information on the DAG system is available at Dag-System.com.
