Posted: November 29, 2005 Athletics: 2006 Reebok Boston Indoor Games set for January 28
BOSTON (Nov. 29) – The Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center will once again play host to many of the world’s greatest track-and-field athletes when the 11th annual Reebok Boston Indoor Games returns on Jan. 28, organizers announced today. Over the past decade, the track extravaganza has been the site of four World Records and eight American Records as it has become a fixture on the Boston sports calendar. Called by one long-time sports journalist “the best indoor meet I’ve ever seen,” the 2005 event was highlighted by Ethiopian sensation Tirunesh Dibaba, who smashed the 5000-meter world mark before a rollicking sell-out crowd. The action-packed evening also featured Olympic gold medalists Kenenisa Bekele, Carolina Kluft, Meseret Defar and DeeDee Trotter; as well as four-time World Champion shot putter John Godina and rising stars Kim Smith and Alistair Cragg. Since 1996, New England fans have had the opportunity to see 80 Olympic or World Championship medalists -- including Maurice Greene, Stacy Dragila, Gail Devers, Derartu Tulu, Allyson Felix and Haile Gebrselassie – perform in their own backyard. Athletes slated to compete in the 2006 event will be announced soon. Sponsored by Reebok International Ltd., with its world headquarters in Canton, Mass., the event is produced by Global Athletics & Marketing, Inc., an athlete-representation and events firm based in Boston. GA&M also produces the outdoor Reebok Grand Prix in NYC and represents a roster of world-class athletes. The 11th-annual Reebok Boston Indoor Games will be held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College, 1350 Tremont St., from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 28, and will be broadcast Jan. 29 on ESPN2 from 3-4:30 p.m. Tickets and information are now available on-line at www.BostonIndoorGames.com or by calling 1-866-GO-BIG06.
