Posted: December 2, 2005 Athletics Canada Technical Congress a Success; Road to Beijing Paved (OTTAWA) Athletics Canada’s Technical Congress held November 25th to 27th in Edmonton, followed by the 2008 Beijing Olympic orientation camp as well as the Run, Jump, Throw demonstration was a complete success on all fronts. Over 20 of Canada’s top track and field athletes took part in the Road to Beijing Orientation Camp. The athletes involved were all identified as potential members of Athletics Canada’s 2008 Olympic team. The orientation camp featured a “Planning for your financial future” presentation by RBC Financial Group. The Run, Jump, Throw demonstration held at George H. Luck elementary school featured 2005 World Championships bronze medalist Tyler Christopher, in addition to Olympians Perdita Felicien and Chantal Petitclerc leading children through Run, Jump, Throw stations. Run, Jump, Throw is Athletics Canada’s grassroots program aimed at 5 to 12 year olds. The program teaches fundamental motor skills through lessons that are focused on skill acquisition, sport education, participatory and team competition. The Technical Congress featured over 120 Canadian athletic minds with presentations by key athletic figures in fields such as coaching, development programs, training programs, women in coaching, and club development. The congress was capped off with a dinner hosted by Mondo Commercial and Sport Flooring. Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for the sport of track and field including cross-country running and road running. Comment on this story. |
