Multisport: Runner's Web Presents the Dave Scott Clinic

Announcing the second annual Dave Scott Iron Distance Triathlon Training Clinic - Registration Opens Today for January 2006 Event.

Friday, December 2, 2005 (Ottawa, ON) – Triathlon Ottawa announced today the opening of online registration for the 2006 Dave Scott Iron Distance Triathlon Training Clinic in Ottawa, Canada. From January 20 through 22, the Ironman legend will be working with a group of 25 local and visiting triathletes. This clinic will focus on using the off-season to build a better foundation for the 2006 race season. Dave will work closely with the athletes through a series of discussions and active sessions, covering a range of the most critical topics for the iron distance athlete.

Over the course of this three day clinic, topics covered will include injury prevention through stretch and strength conditioning, endurance nutrition for training and race, program design through the four training seasons and the benefit of establishing biomechanical efficiencies.

The 2005 event sold out and was deemed a success by organizer Geordie McConnell of Triathlon Ottawa and the events main sponsors. McConnell has a plan in place to make the 2006 event more memorable. According to McConnell “we plan to include the use of video feedback, biomechanical assessments and active strength training sessions. The athletes are going to be working hard during this weekend”. McConnell feels that Canada’s Capital is the best place to host such an event. “We had almost 8000 local entries in various triathlons last summer and in Ottawa’s inaugural iron distance race (The Canadian—Somersault Promotions). Many of these athletes complete in iron distance races around the world. We need to support these individuals and what better way than by bringing in the greatest triathlete of all time.”

Dave Scott, a six-time winner of the Hawaii Ironman World Championship, is now coach to some of the world’s top long distance triathletes including England’s Simon Lessing. He has recently increased his reach as a coach launching Velocity Coaching, a personal, customized online coaching service.
