Posted: December 6, 2005 Science of Sport: U.S. Olympic Team Using New High-Performance Sports Detergent to Eliminate Embedded Sweat and Odors From Uniforms and Training Apparel ATLANTA, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Olympic Team is using a new, sports-specific laundry detergent called "WIN" that is the world's first oxidized formula specifically designed to eliminate the embedded sweat and odors found in performance athletic apparel. For years, serious athletes have been using high-performance micofiber apparel for its moisture management and body heat mitigation. Unfortunately, these products retain bacteria attracted to the sweat trapped in the same microfibers that provide the performance benefits. The result is a musty odor that traditional detergents have not been able to remove. "Win's super oxygenated system directly targets the bacteria oxidizing the offensive odors and stains associated with performance products that have become popular among Olympic caliber athletes and weekend warriors alike," said Jeff Crow, president of WIN Products Inc., the makers of WIN Detergent. "Our scientifically engineered formula removes embedded sweat and odor and neutralizes the bacteria that overwhelm the fabric, while also eliminating the colored bodies that produce stains." Independent testing at Shuster Laboratories in Canton, Massachusetts has proven WIN's superiority over traditional leading detergents and specialty products in removing sweat and odor from all fabrics. This highly engineered product effectively removes bacteria, but remains safe and gentle for all colors and fabrics. WIN can be used with traditional washing machines, high-efficiency machines, and for hand washing. "We are pleased to welcome WIN Products to our licensing family," said Chester Wheeler, director of corporate sales and licensing for the U.S. Olympic Committee. "Their product innovation aligns nicely with our state of the art Olympic training facilities, and we look forward to a long and successful relationship with them." While WIN competes with traditional detergents' ability to clean and provides superior odor fighting, the product also rejuvenates the moisture-wicking and waterproofing properties of performances apparel through its super-oxygenated system. WIN reduces the fabric residue that builds up over time which impacts the effectiveness of microfiber apparel. "We expect the running, cycling and fitness enthusiasts to be among the first to really adopt this product," said Crow. "To meet the demand, and further emphasize the 'performance benefits' of WIN vs. traditional detergents, our distribution channels will include local health clubs, vitamin/nutritional supplement stores and specialty sports retailers. The product is also available online at www.winproductsinc.com." The International Health, Racquet and Sports club Association (IHRSA) estimates that 41% of the 40 million consumers who belong to health clubs exercise at least 100 times a year. Many of these committed exercise enthusiasts use performance apparel along with hundreds of youth athletes in football, baseball and other sports who use performance apparel as their base-layer of choice. "I have considered the musty smell associated with performance apparel as a necessary evil in my training regiment because of the performance benefits these products provide me," said fitness-industry icon Monica Brant. "I had tried and failed with every crazy combination of laundry products to eliminate the odors. That's why I was sold on WIN after the first load, it simply works." About WIN Products, Inc.
