Triathlon: Ford Ironman USA Lake Placid and Ford Ironman USA Coeur d'Alene swap professional fields in 2006

BOULDER, Colo.— Ironman North America will feature a men’s only and women’s only professional race for the second consecutive year in the 2006 race season.

The top professional women will compete at the 2006 Ford Ironman USA Coeur d ’Alene being held on June 25, 2006, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and the top professional men will compete at the 2006 Ford Ironman USA Lake Placid being held on July 23, 2006, in Lake Placid, N.Y. There will be $50,000 pro-prize purse for professional women at the 2006 Ford Ironman USA Coeur d’Alene and a $50,000 pro-prize purse at the 2006 Ford Ironman USA Lake Placid.

“In keeping with the idea of bringing in the top professional athletes in the sport of triathlon to compete against one another, we will continue the men’s only and women’s only professional races in 2006,” said Ironman North America President Graham Fraser. “The men’s only race at the 2005 Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene and the women’s only race at the 2005 Ford Ironman Lake Placid were highly successful, and the level of competition at each event was tremendous.”

The prize money breakdown for both races in 2006 will be as follows: 1st, $14,000; 2nd, $9,000; 3rd, $7,500; 4th, $6,000; 5th, $5,000, 6th, $3,500; 7th, $2,000; 8th, $1,500; 9th, $1,000; 10th, $500.
