The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon has been scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17. The race had been scheduled for this Friday, but was abruptly postponed yesterday after the death of Sheikh Makthoum bin Raschid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, and vice-president of the United Arab Republics (UAE). His funeral was today, Thursday.

"We'll obviously lose one or two of our elite, who have commitments for March and April, but everyone has been very understanding and supportive," said race director Peter Connerton in a press release. "We fully expect to have just as good a field, going for course records in six weeks' time."

This will be the seventh edition of the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. The course records are 2:09:33 by Joseph Kahugu of Kenya set in 2003 and 2:33:31 by Albina Ivanova of Russia set in 2002.
