Athletics: Berlin running organiser registered record of more than 140,000 entries in 2005

Germany’s big road running organiser SCC-RUNNING, who for example stages the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON and the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON, has had another record year. In 2005 a total of 140,450 athletes have registered for the 20 events held in Berlin. It was the first time SCC-RUNNING had more than 140,000 athletes within one year. Since organising the very first Berlin Cross Country Race back in 1964 SCC-RUNNING has registered a total of 1,537,936 entries at 387 events.

An estimated 1.75 million spectators lined the streets during the events of 2005. Most of them naturally turned up on 25th September for the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON. But also the half marathon had a record figure of about 150,000 spectators.

SCC-RUNNING hopes to build on the success in the New Year. On 2nd April the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON will take place with up to 20,000 runners. The race boosts a very fast and scenic course. There are more top events to follow: The AVON RUNNING Berlin Women’s Race and the HypoVereinsbank Team Relay in May and the Vattenfall City Night in August. The 33rd real,- BERLIN-MARATHON will once more be a two day event on 23rd and 24th September. The inline skaters will have their own event on the Saturday.
