Top athletes past and present gathered today in Dublin to launch the BUPA Great Ireland Run.

Irish legends Eamon Coghlan and Ronnie Delany joined current athletes Jolene Byrne and Dathan Ritzenhein to alert the media that the Great BUPA Ireland Run, a 10-K road race, will take place on Sunday, April 9, one week after the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

Byrne of the Donore Harriers, and Ritzenhein, the American who holds the NCAA 10,000m record, are expected to compete in the race. "Ritz" will face off against defending champion, Craig Mottram of Australia, the reigning World Championships bronze medalist at 5000m.

Organizers expect some 8000 participants for the 10-K run and accompanying 3-K.
