Posted: January 23, 2006 Athletics: Internet radio host will PodCast as he runs 110th Boston Marathon Oxford, MA. January 23rd, 2006 - “Phedippidations” the thirty minute weekly internet radio show for runners, will provide complete coverage of the 110th Boston Marathon on April 17th before, after and during the race. Running his 13th official marathon, and his fifth Boston Marathon, show host Steve Runner is a long time writer for the international newsletter and website “Run the Planet” ( http://www.runtheplanet.com ), which attracts the largest world wide running community on the Internet. The internet radio show, Phedippidations, located at SteveRunner.com is a PodCast about running. This will be the first time that a broadcaster who is running the Boston Marathon will provide mile by mile coverage as he is actually running the race. Phedippidations has previously presented the running of the 2005 Bay State and Cape Cod Marathons last October, but the significance of presenting the Boston Marathon to his listeners is not lost on Steve. “This is the world’s oldest annual Marathon and one of the most prestigious road races on the planet” said Steve, “I’m honored to be able to bring the experience of running this great race to my listeners, from the perspective of a middle of the pack runner.” Phedippidations is a PodCast ( or “RunCast” ) of thoughts, opinions, observations and rambling diatribes composed during distance long runs. “I record much of the program on the road while I’m out training for my next marathon”, said Steve. The current program schedule includes three PodCasts dedicated to the race: Episode 39 on April 9th will be titled “A Tour of the Boston Marathon course” and will be recorded as Steve runs his final pre-race “long training run” from the starting line in Hopkinton Massachusetts to the 22 mile marker at Cleveland Circle in Boston. “This will be a preview of what runners can expect on race day. I’ll describe the course as I run it, and give runners a preview of any road construction or course changes that have been made since last year” said Steve. Episode 40 on April 16th will be titled “The History of Boston”, and will cover much of the major and little known stories of interest surrounding the Boston Marathon through the past 110 years. Steve will record his PodCast as he runs the race on April 17th and present Episode 41 on April 23rd: his running of the 110th Boston Marathon. Produced weekly and made available for weekend long runs, Phedippidations can be downloaded for free at “SteveRunner.com” ( www.SteveRunner.com ) and subscribed to via i-Tunes ( www.apple.com/itunes/ ), Juice ( juicereceiver.sourceforge.net ) or any of the other free PodCast subscription programs available on the Internet by using the RSS link: feeds.feedburner.com/Phedippidations. Phedippidations can be found in I-Tunes under the “Health and Fitness” PodCast category. A promotional announcement for the show can be heard at http://www.steverunner.com/PodCasts/Phedippidations_Promo.mp3 Podcasting is a method of publishing audio programs via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files ( usually MP3s ). Free “podcatching” software enables the user to copy PodCasts to portable music players. Any digital audio player or computer with audio-playing software can play PodCasts. Comment on this story. |
