Posted: January 24, 2006 Athletics: Hanson named USATF Athlete of the Week INDIANAPOLIS - Marisa Hanson has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting a meet record in the elite women's mile at the 39th Annual Hartshorne Memorial Masters Mile in Ithaca, New York. A former two-time All-American in the 400-meter hurdles at Ithaca College, Hanson ran a 5:02.69, breaking the meet record of 5:08.55 set in 2003 by Patti Blanchard. (Blanchard's time remains a women's 45-to-49 age group world record.) Hanson, 42, won a prize purse of $300, along with $400 for breaking the 5:15 performance standard and a $200 bonus for the meet record. Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week. 2006 USATF Athlete of the Week Winners: January 3, Walt Henning; January 10, Amandi Rhett; January 17, Kevin Eastler; January 24, Marisa Hanson.
