Posted: January 27, 2006 Athletics: Sepeng Case Referred To IAAF For Decision From David Monti © 2005 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com By Riel Hauman Athletics South Africa's disciplinary committee has referred the Hezekiel Sepeng doping case back to the IAAF doping review board after finding that "exceptional circumstances" exist. The South African 800m record holder tested positive for Nandrolone in an out-of-competition test taken in February last year. The disciplinary committee under the chairmanship of Monty Hacker said it was "satisfied that exceptional circumstances exist from the evidence presented." In a media release Athletics South Africa (ASA) stated that "the ASA Tribunal has decided to invoke the provisions of IAAF Rule 38 (16), that states: 'If, having examined the evidence presented, the relevant tribunal considers that there are circumstances in the athlete's case which may be exceptional, if the case involves an international-level athlete, it shall: (a) refer the matter to the Doping Review Board (via the Secretary-General), together with all material and/or evidence which, in its view, demonstrates the exceptional nature of the circumstances…' " The referral is currently in progress, according to the statement.
