Athletics: Band Search Underway for 2006 Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

Organizers seek bands performing salsa, reggae, R&B, alternative, classic rock and country

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2006) -- The ninth annual Rock 'n' Roll Marathon hits the streets of San Diego June 4, 2006 and the call is out for more than 40 live bands to line the 26.2-mile course and entertain 20,000 runners and walkers.

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon has a reputation for pleasing all musical tastes and organizers are searching for all formats of music, ranging from reggae, jazz, blues, salsa, hip hop and of course, rock 'n' roll.

"We want upbeat, high energy music," said Entertainment Director Shauna Buffington. The goal is to provide our 20,000 runners and walkers with the a variety of music that will motivate them as they take on this challenge."

The bands chosen will play on one of 26 entertainment stages positioned approximately every mile of the 26.2-mile course. The event features a post-race television show, broadcast locally on NBC 7/39 and nationally on FSN.

Musicians and participants will also be rockin' for a good cause -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Through the musical marathon series and the Society's Team In Training program, more over $97 million (net) has been generated for leukemia & lymphoma research and patient services since 1998.

Bands should apply now as space is limited and fills quickly. Sound, stage and promotion are included. Interested bands should send a CD or tape, biographical information, a band photo to:
