Posted: February 8, 2006 Athletics: IAAF and EAA Officials Discuss Future Of Athletics In Europe Monte Carlo - Senior officials from the IAAF met their counterparts from the European Athletic Association in Monaco last week, to discuss ways of working together for the long term benefit of the sport in Europe and beyond. IAAF President Lamine Diack, General Secretary Istvan Gyulai and General Director Pierre Weiss met EAA President Hansjörg Wirz and EAA Director General Christian Milz for a wide ranging discussion about ways to cooperate closely to implement the objectives included within the IAAF’s Athletics World Plan – a major strategic review of the sport to ensure its development and continued growth through to the centenary of the IAAF in 2012 and beyond. President Diack said: “Although, obviously, one of the IAAF’s top priorities is to develop our sport around the world, it is also in our interest to help Europe remain a powerhouse of athletics. This meeting was very useful, since the EAA representatives were able to present their views on how our sport may evolve in Europe over the next years, and we have agreed to meet again regularly. The IAAF is ready to listen and encourage the EAA as it faces the challenge of re-invigorating athletics in Europe.” Comment on this story. |
