Posted: February 10, 2006 Athletics: HEB Bayou City Classic 10K to Host RRCA National Championship in March Houston's HEB Bayou City Classic 10K, scheduled for Saturday, March 11, will serve as the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) 2006 National Championship. The race celebrates its 28th running during the RRCA National Convention in Houston March 8-12. On hand for both events, women's running icon, Kathrine Switzer, will be an official starter for the race. Joining the elite challengers in the HEB Bayou City Classic 10K field are 2005 RRCA Roads Scholarship winners Trent Briney and Mike Morgan. Briney, 27, from Rochester Hills, Mich., ran 2:12:34 at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and was an alternate for the Athens Olympic Games. Morgan, 25, from Lincoln, Neb., ran 1:04:48 to finish 8th at the 2005 USA Half-Marathon Championships in Houston. Briney and Morgan are members of the Hansons-Brooks training group. The HEB Bayou City Classic 10K continues its long tradition of being an event for all comers with a party atmosphere. Runners, walkers, costumed participants, and centipedes share the flat, fast course lined with music and entertainment.
