Posted: February 10, 2006 Athletics: The Fourth Annual Mission Hospitals Sunset Stampede 10 Miler, 4 Milerand Kids 1 Mile Stampede ASHEVILLE, NC-Asheville's Sweatiest and Stinkiest Race of the Year is coming May 6th, 2006. With the Kid Stampede- 3 p.m and 10 and 4 miler at 4 p.m, there is an event for everyone. The 10 mile has been known to make Kenyans utter one single word over and over at the end of the day (Steep!) and is remarkable not just for the climb but for the view. It's a beauty, and was named as one of the top ten road races in the Southeast by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine (the only NC race to be named). Don't be seduced by city lights or flyin'critters- this is the race for your spring. Training groups are forming around town: Coaches Adam Hill, ultra_rnr@yahoo.com,, 828.277.7854 (and Matthew Johnson) are leading a 10 mile group leaving from downtown on Tues./Thurs. 6pm. Mission Hospital employees will be training for the 4 miler and other health clubs are looking into getting groups started, so be on the lookout for the nearest group gearing up for the Stampede! To register: download a registration form from www.sunsetstampede.com and send it to PO Box 17535, Asheville NC 28816 by April 24, 2006 to avoid late fees. If you do decide at the last minute to sign up on the "day of" bring seven cans of food to donate to MANNA and get $5 off your procratination fee. First 500 runners are guaranteed t-shirts. Awards will be in 5 year increments, 3 deep. First 30 kids in the 1 miler will receive t-shirts and cowboy hats. Included with your race fee is an awesome post-race party that will be held at Carrier Park with the Mountain Sports Festival where awards will be distributed and participants will enjoy good music and a complimentary beer/beverage.
