Posted: February 11, 2006 Athletics: Former TAC/USA secretary Dr. Dean Ingram dies The following is a statement from USA Track & Field President Bill Roe. The first elected secretary of TAC/USA, and AAU race walk chair prior to that, Dr. Dean Ingram, passed away early Friday after being in a coma for about a week. He was 68. He had had a stroke a while back and had recently fallen and hit his head. During recuperation, he went into the coma. Dean was more than a fellow USATF believer and leader. He was a worker-bee for many decades. For years after ending his duties as a secretary, he continued national service as chair of the annual meeting site selection committee. A TAC/USA President's Award winner in 1980, he rarely missed an annual meeting. He also worked long and hard on the local level here in Seattle. Fortwo years, he was president of my club, Club Northwest. He founded a 10 km walk versus 15 km run event which Ollan Cassell at one point, sold to a national sponsor. When I lived in Seattle, he was my dentist as well! We called Dean the "wacky tooth doc," and often accused him of showing up at PNTF meetings having had too much of his own Novocain! We will miss Dean greatly, even though he spent most of his recent years only occasionally popping in on a PNTF or CNW meeting, due to his having too much fun traveling. His memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, at 11:30a.m., at St. Mark's Catholic Church at the corner of NE 180th and 15th Avenue NE in North Seattle. Comment on this story. |
