Posted: February 12, 2006 Multisport: Record number of athletes for Limerick Duathlon It was a wet a dreary day in Limerick this morning but that didnt stop a record number of athletes showing up to St Endas complex to take part in the first race on the TI calender. The race involved a 3.8km run, 16km cycle and 3.8km run and 79 men and women showed up keen to get their season off to a good start. In the mens race Dave Beary from Limerick Triathlon Club took first place, he paced himself in the first run coming in in 7th place but quick out of transition and he put in an impressive bike split to make up for lost time, there was a small hitch just inside the gates of St Endas on the way up to T2 but he didnt let it hold him up for long and he ran a steady second run to bring him across the line in first place. Second place Ruaidhri Geraghty put in a good first and second run but he lost time on the bike which resulted in him coming in 26seconds behind Dave. Keith Heary had a steady race bringing him into third place. Catherine Keohane from Cork lead the ladies race the whole way through, followed by Liz Hussey and Gwen Daly. Last years course record of 47:30 still remains firmly in a place. Race 2 will take place on Sunday 26th February and Race 3 Sunday 12th March. These will all be part of Triathlon Irelands Duathlon League (similar to their Triathlon Premier League), details of which will be announced shortly. Results: Dave Beary 51:01 Ruaidhri Geraghty 51:27 Keith Heary 51:34 Catherine Keohane 59:39 Liz Hussey 1:02:06 Gwen Daly 1:02:51 For full details and more information check out www.triathlonireland.com.
