Triathlon: Al Sultan and Badmann at IRONMAN South Africa

The incumbent World Champions, Faris Al Sultan and Natascha Badmann, will be at the start of IRONMAN South Africa on the 19th of March 2006.

Not only are the organizers of IRONMAN South Africa proud to have experienced a huge increase in the number of participants in its three years of existence, but they are also pride themselves in having the world’s greatest long distance triathletes at the starting line.

For the first in the history of IRONMAN, both of the incumbent World Champions will be among the starters in a competition, making it a race to remember.

It has been clear since the 13th of February. After the World Champion Faris Al Sultan announced his participation in IRONMAN South Africa, another winner of the IRONMAN World Championship 2005, Natascha Badmann, confirmed her participation in the South African long distance race.

Whilst Faris Al Sultan will be starting in South Africa for the first time, his fellow competitor Badmann relies on her past experience at Port Elizabeth. She left her rivals behind and took home the victory at IRONMAN South Africa already in 2005.

Both of the top triathletes are setting up the scene for a race that is likely to become a battle of the giants.

The local hero Raynard Tissink, who shone brilliantly at his home territory last year, will have to defend his title in tough company. It will likewise be seen whether anyone of the women will be able to defy Badmann and deprive her of the victory.

It promises to be a sensational race with myriad of top triathletes that has never before been seen. Other PROSs that announced for the race are Rutger Beke (BEL), Gerrit Schellens (BEL), Gilles Reboul (FRA), Stefan Riesen (CH) and Petr Vabrousek (RUS) The 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycling leg and the concluding marathon will provide the athletes as well as the spectators with at least 7.5 hours of breathtaking excitement.
