Posted: February 23, 2006 Athletics: Ottawa to host Track and Field’s Elite (Ottawa) – Athletics Canada is pleased to announce that Ottawa will be the site of the 2006 Canadian Track and Field Championships. The Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club will host the event August 4th to 6th at the Terry Fox Track. The Canadian Track and Field Championship is Athletics Canada’s premier event. The nation’s top athletes will converge on the capital to claim the titles of the 100, 200 and 400 metre dashes; the 800, 1500 and 5000 metre runs; the 20 kilometre race walk; the 100, 110 and 400 metre hurdles, and the 3000 metre steeplechase. The country’s finest will also be looking to be crowned Canadian champion in field events such as the high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus throw, hammer throw and javelin throw. The event will feature world class international athletes such as Olympians Perdita Felicien, Charles Allen, Mark Boswell, Dana Ellis, Gary Reed, Jason Tunks, and 2005 World Championships bronze medalist Tyler Christopher. Founded in 1973, the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club is one of Canada’s top national competitive clubs. The Ottawa Lions are an inclusive program offering opportunities suitable for all levels of ability and development.
